Collectormania 24 was the big one for us. Not only did we get to meet awesome guests such John Barrowman, Michael Shanks, Ben Browder, and Robert Patrick, we also had the opportunity to meet up with a (huge) bunch of fellow Stargate fans.
I’d never seen so many SG fans under one roof before! It was great to meet so many new people, catch up with friends and meet some of our online friends for the first time too. It was such a fun, friendly atmosphere and I’m so happy to have been a part of it.
The con itself was fairly well organised. A few people flouted the cosplay weapon rules (which was annoying) but other than that from what I can remember (writing this 15 months after the fact) I feel that it all ran smoothly.
The absolute highlight of my day was meeting the fabulous John Barrowman. I’d been a fan of his since his days on Live & Kicking back in the early nineties, so needless to say I was in a bit of a state while waiting for him lol. It was totally worth the nerves though. He was really funny while we were waiting. At one point he commented that he looked like s**t. He so didn’t by the way. He was even more gorgeous in the flesh and I got a lovely
After meeting John, we got to spend some more time with the aforementioned Gaters, have a good look at all the stalls, squeeze a bite to eat in, queue for Ben, Patrick and Michael’s autographs, and mosey around a bit again until it was time for my Michael Shanks photoshoot. This was a lovely surprise for me as I had only planned to have a pic with John but an amazing friend of mine (got to love the Stargate community) bought a Michael shoot for me. This was another highlight for me and another case of nerves setting in. He was a really nice guy though and I was so lucky to meet him. I had intended to meet Dean Cain directly after him but in all the excitement, I completely forgot. I only remembered on our way home lol. A bit gutted later though.
On the whole it was a fantastic (but tiring) day. We met some amazing people, had a few laughs, and came away with wonderful memories.
